Schylling comes to interior design with an impressive visual arts education. She has a
bachelor’s degree in art history from McGill University in Montreal, attended Sotheby’s Decorative Arts program in London, and the Master’s in Art History program at New York University. She later worked at Sotheby’s as an art consultant.
In furnishing her house, she followed its architectural cues. It is a happy marriage of opposites. The commodious yellow clapboard dwelling, built in 1987, has a front facade that resembles a traditional New England Colonial. The back, however, is sleekly contemporary, with a
