94 DESIGN NEW ENGLAND MAY/JUNE 2017
the renovated south-facing facade
remains true to the building’s 1902
architectural style but is constructed of
new materials such as Alaskan yellow
cedar for the roof, siding, and pergola,
antique cypress for the French doors,
and irregular bluestone for the walkway.
At the back of the house (facing page),
an archway that connects the structure
to the street forms an inviting gateway to
the rock garden.
