The open-concept first floor includes the kitchen,
dining area, and great room, all facing the beach. The lay-
out suits the casual lifestyle of an active family, and, says
Caccoma, “we used outdoor fabric on the slipcovers and
sofas in the great room, so you don’t have to worry about
kids in bathing suits or even dogs.”
Here, ceilings are painted high-gloss white, which
adds to the bright appearance of the space and creates a
handsome contrast to the hand-scraped dark-stained Bra-
zilian walnut floors. Against this neutral backdrop, “the
owners wanted to have fun with color,” says Caccoma.
Examples throughout the house include the blue cabi-
netry of the kitchen, the vivid mango window treatments
of a guest bedroom, and cheerful red-and-white striped
ticking in the attic bunk room.
