Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston;
mfa.org. July 9 to March 30.
Fans of Modernist photography will find An Enduring Vision: Photographs
from the Lane Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, stunningly
inspiring. The exhibit of 50 works is from a collection of 20th-century
photographs gathered by William and Saundra Lane, mostly in
the 1960s and ’70s and given to the MFA in 2012. Modern
techniques that display soft-focus pictorialism and the interplay of positive
and negative images by powerhouse photographers such as Charles
Sheeler, Edward Weston (Juniper, Lake Tenaya, right), Ansel Adams, and
England’s William Henry Fox Talbot are among the highlights.
Boston’s FilzFelt, a design house that
uses German-milled wool felt in 58
colors, teamed with Turkish
designer Ayse Birsel to make products
that bring rooms to life with geometric
shapes and bright colors. Items
include circular room dividers, funky
floor mats, and fun accents like the
Saarinen Doily (above) for the iconic
Saarinen tulip table (or any 48-inch-
diameter surface) and other sizes.
