verbridge, who grew up in a farm town in
the Finger Lakes region outside Rochester,
New York, was first exposed to design when
she was in seventh grade and her parents
hired an architect to work on their house.
“I was intrigued with the whole thing. I
had no idea a woman could do that.”
but she was never tempted to become an
architect. Rather, she found that her passion lay in interior design, a profession she
finds totally satisfying.
“I found corporate interior design first. It
interested me because I thought I didn’t
want to work with bored housewives.”
she says that with a smile that reveals she
now dismisses her youthful naiveté. Residential design became her mainstay after
her career got sidetracked when she had
children. She raised three sons, now grown,
in the house in Marblehead, Massachusetts, where she still lives with her husband,
Chuck Burd, who works on the investment
side of commercial real estate.
“We have great conversations when we
drive by a building. I’ll say what I think
about the design or wonder why they did
something a certain way, and he will dis-
