partially inspired by her collection of vibrant Fiestaware and Le Creuset cookware, Arcand wanted the
kitchen to pop with color. Interior designer Heidi Marika-Perez selected a custom shade of aqua concrete
for the island and balanced that bold hue with a more neutral gray for the perimeter countertops. The
watery blue glass tile backsplash extends to the ceiling for dramatic flair.
Drawn to bold hues but aware of her
tendency “to get too carried away,” Arcand
relied on Marika-Perez to perfect the
kitchen’s color scheme. For the countertops,
she selected two shades of custom-colored
concrete, aqua for the large island and a
more neutral gray for the counters around the
perimeter — complemented by orange tones
in the tiger-wood floors. The backsplash, done
in watery blue glass tiles, stretches to the
ceiling for dramatic effect, while the cherry
cabinetry was stained in some places and left
natural in others for subtle contrast.
“Claudia has a collection of original
Fiestaware from her grandmother and many
brightly colored Le Creuset pots that she
wanted to be able to display around the room,
so we kept that in mind when picking colors,”
says Marika-Perez.
Most of the appliances, including the two
dishwashers and freezer, were camouflaged
with cherry panels, while the refrigerator
was faced with a chalkboard for family notes,
