HOME SWEET LOOKING HOME.
it has been a season of giving, learning, and growing
for the New England design community. The giving was
manifest in April, when the Room to Dream Foundation,
which creates healing environments for children with
chronic illnesses, hosted its fund-raising Carnival of
Dreams gala at the Cyclorama in Boston. The appreciative crowd of 300-plus enjoyed outstanding food generously
donated by 10 local restaurateurs and viewed four sample rooms designed by Dennis Duffy of the Duffy Design
Group, Erin Gates of Element Interiors, Andrew Terrat
of Terrat Elms Interior Design, and members of ASID
New England’s board of directors. The highlight of the
evening, however, was the recognition of four “unsung
heroes,” notable among them, architect D. Michael
Later in April, Cyclorama was transformed again, this time for the third annual AD 20/21:
Art & Design of the 20th & 21st Centuries. More than 3,000 people attended the three-day show;
the opening gala raised $115,000 for the Boston Architectural College.
At a March seminar at the Boston Design Center, Bob Ernst, president of FBN Construction,
shared his best practices with more than 50 fellow professionals. Workshops and seminars were
also well attended at the Boston Society of Architects’s Residential Design and Construction
Show. The two-day exhibit in April highlighted new products and trends. Attendees were feted
with an evening reception sponsored by Design New England and Stone Technologies at which
the Woburn, Massachusetts, company announced its 2010 Design Set in Stone contest — the
grand prize is a trip to Italy (for details, go to
