MORE THAN MULCH | Liberally covering garden beds with mulch helps reduce the need for watering — as well as
weeding. Our favorites add a little something more to the planet-friendly mix.
3 FloriMulch is made from the
aggressively invasive melaleuca tree that has infested the Florida Everglades, destroying natural habitats; harvesting the
trees slows the native Australian plant's growth. It's also naturally termite-resistant.
2 Enviro Fiber is made from 100 percent
recycled newsprint, a nontoxic material that retains more water than traditional wood mulches.
4 Planters Paper is a
biodegradable alternative to black plastic mulch and is produced locally in Peabody, Massachusetts. —molly jane quinn
