top tables • Furniture design is just one of
Christian Brown’s many passions. An alumnus of
the Harvard Graduate School of Design, he is
also an architectural designer and an ardent
proponent of sustainable building. So it seems
he hit a design trifecta with his latest lines of
tables. The pieces make strong architectural
statements while reflecting the furniture
designer’s overall sense of balance. “I like the
three-dimensional quality of furniture,” he says.
“If you look at the Prana table from the side, it
has substance. But if you look at it from the end,
it looks light.” But what keeps him at the drawing
board is the current proliferation of new
eco-friendly products. The Prana dining table, for
example, has a top made of Dakota Burl, a
combination of agricultural fiber and sunflower
seeds set in resin. His Echo tables have bases
made of salvaged wood and colorful reclaimed
eco-resin tops. “It is great to discover new
materials that are both environmentally friendly
and beautiful,” says Brown. “I’m just having fun
manipulating all these products.” The handmade
pieces start at $700 and are available through
