A look
you’ll love
coming home to.
our homes are the centers of gravity in our lives,
so it’s nice to know we can create sustainable living spaces
that are healthy, environmentally sound, and beautifully
designed and crafted. As new technologies emerge and public awareness grows, green building is becoming the norm,
rather than the cutting-edge exception. Elegant solutions
for designing and building homes that are better for our
health and the health of our planet are increasingly more
available. Organizations such as the Conservation Services
Group ( csgrp.com) can help point consumers and design
professionals to the many quality sources for new products
in solar- and wind-powered electrical systems, green home-building materials, HVAC systems, and much more.
Other sources of information, education, and products will be the two major exhibitions
on design and construction coming to Boston this fall. The first is Build Boston (buildboston.
com/register), the annual convention and trade show for design, building, and management
professionals sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects. Always a showcase for the latest in
building products and methods, the show will be at the Seaport World Trade Center November
18 through the 20th. In addition, the U.S. Green Building Council will bring its Greenbuild
International Conference and Expo ( greenbuildexpo.org) to the Boston Convention Center on
November 19 through the 21st.

The fall calendar is packed with fun and educational opportunities for homeowners and
design professionals alike. In September and October, the Mitchell Construction Group will hold
a Home Design Workshop Series at its headquarters in Medfield, Massachusetts (508-359-7904,
mitchcogroup.com), and The Van Millwork Home Design Seminar Series, cosponsored by
Design New England, begins at Van’s Needham, Massachusetts, design center (781-444-8744,
vanmillwork.com). September 23 through the 25th, the Boston Design Center will sponsor
Design Boston ( bostondesign.com), its annual market days. The program includes seminars in
which professionals can earn educational credits as well as presentations on design trends for
2009. And on October 23, architect Marcus Gleysteen of Gleysteen Design LLC in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, will join up with kitchen showroom Arclinea Boston ( arclineaboston.com) and
Design New England editor Gail Ravgiala to present a workshop called “The Ultimate Home”
with insider tips for great design results.
Just like our kids, we’ll be learning a lot this fall — in our case about the innovative way we
live today.
