Comfortable white upholstered furniture
is mixed with design elements from around
the world, such as the conical silver sconces
from Africa, the African and South American
textiles, and the kilim rugs from Turkey.
In the kitchen, Spongberg used concrete
for the handsome but utilitarian countertops
and incorporated the red milk-painted feather
boards from the original farmhouse under
the center island. Above the island, she hung
an old French metal pot rack. The walls are
painted gray to blend with the shiny stainless-steel appliances.
“I love this house and think that it sits in
its environment very lightly,”
says Spongberg. “It is comfortable in every way, with many
spaces inside and out to enjoy
the magnificent scenery. It is
set up as a great place for my clients’ family
and guests.”
Not only is the owner happy with her new
house, she’s also pleased to note that the rock
outcroppings have formations known as lucky
stones. They make her think this house is her
lucky house.

➝ the house design (above) was inspired by
an existing small agricultural building on the
site (below). “It was like a design clue from
the past,” says architect Michael Oleksak of
Cosestudi. The living area of the 8,000-
square-foot house includes [ 1] the kitchen,
[ 2] great room, and [ 3] outdoor pergola. The
other wing houses the sleeping quarters.
